Week 8: Promoting Participation
And now, Ladies and Gentleman! I introduce to you the mother of all interactions in the classroom, the most revered topic in meetings and educational articles across the nation, the most sought after activity by every teacher - Student Engagement.
I love when my students are asking questions, debating, and commenting. I welcome it wholeheartedly and believe I have a knack for getting it "popping" in the groups I lead. In part, it's personality. The other parts are experience and planning. I am a thought-provocateur. I love to hear how people think and process and promote it at every turn. Organized rowdiness equals a successful class time.
There are always a few who are just not that into sharing for a number of reasons. These exercises can help to relieve everyone of that perceived pressure by generating enough stimuli to be the focus of attention.
In the lessons that follow, you will be introduced to 5 games curated to promote student engagement in the classroom.
In the world of acting, these exercises help with character development.
In the classroom, they are useful for critical thinking and igniting discussions.
